DR. SARA D. KHAN – DES MOINES OPTOMETRIST

Sara D. Khan, O.D., has been seeing patients with Wolfe Eye Clinic since 2012. Dr. Khan received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in biology from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. During her medical school academic externships, she gained extensive eye care experience in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as pediatric eye conditions.

Dr. Khan is an active member of the Iowa Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She also participates as a member of the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) which takes part in clinical studies related to pediatric eye diseases. Wolfe Eye Clinic has been a PEDIG award-winning site for many years. Dr. Khan is also an active volunteer. She participates in the national program InfantSEE, which provides a free comprehensive eye exam to an infant each year and offers free vision screenings every fall to the free medical camp event in Des Moines.

Dr. Khan was naturally drawn to optometry and shares that as a child, she struggled with her vision and started wearing glasses in the second grade. Despite that, she enjoyed having her eyes checked every year and with a knack for math and science and a passion for helping others, an eye doctor was a great fit. She enjoys helping her patients see better and being part of their journey to a better quality of life.

Outside of work, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with her three children and participating in their activities. You will often find her with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, running or attending Lutheran Church of Hope.
