DR. ALEX KARTVELISHVILI – IOWA CITY AND CEDAR RAPIDS RETINA SPECIALIST

Alex Kartvelishvili, MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained retina specialist. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Hunter College, CUNY, New York, New York. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York, where he also completed an internship and ophthalmology residency. Finally, he completed a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at Valley Retina Institute in McAllen, Texas. Dr. Kartvelishvili has been seeing patients with Wolfe Eye Clinic since 2015.

Dr. Kartvelishvili is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Kartvelishvili enjoys taking part in research studies. He has published several articles and scientific papers and presented several lectures on topics such as macular degeneration, retinal imaging and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Kartvelishvili chose to become an ophthalmologist due to the complex and fascinating nature of retina-related eye diseases and surgical procedures. As a retina specialist, he enjoys helping his patients maintain or improve their vision so that they can live fulfilling lives. On any given day you might find him in our Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Ottumwa, Marshalltown or Cedar Rapids offices.

Outside of work, Dr. Kartvelishvili likes to spend time with his family. He also enjoys a good book and physical exercise.
