DR. STEVEN O. ANDERSON – AMES AND FORT DODGE CATARACT SPECIALIST

Steven O. Anderson, M.D. is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist. He joined Wolfe Eye Clinic in 2018 and sees patients in Ames and Fort Dodge. Practicing ophthalmology for over 20 years, Dr. Anderson has a wealth of experience in comprehensive ophthalmology. His specialties include cataract surgery including complex cataract cases, pterygium surgery and medical and surgical glaucoma management.

Dr. Anderson graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and went on to earn his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. He graduated with honors and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Next, he completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Anderson is recognized for his experience and expertise in international ophthalmology and manual small incision cataract surgery. He is regularly involved with training US and foreign surgeons in this technique as well as speaking at a number of national and international conferences. He enjoys teaching and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota. He also teaches resident physicians how to perform eye surgery at the VA Hospital in Minnesota.

In 2008, Dr. Anderson founded Global Eye Mission, a mission organization created to facilitate the development of long-term eye programs around the world. At that time, he accepted an invitation from a mission hospital in Indonesia to help start a new long-term eye program on the island of Borneo. From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Anderson and his family lived in Indonesia where he held a position at Bethesda Mission Hospital training an Indonesian ophthalmologist and a group of nurses to establish a new eye program to serve the great needs of their communities.

Dr. Anderson continues to serve in the leadership of Global Eye Mission to assist a number of eye care programs around the world. He has received numerous awards including the American Academy of Ophthalmology Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award and the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology George T. Tani, M.D. Humanitarian Award.
