DR. R. PAYSON MORELAND – OTTUMWA AND ALBIA OPTOMETRIST

R. Payson Moreland, O.D. earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Central College in Pella, Iowa. He received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was awarded Outstanding Clinician of his class. Dr. Moreland completed post-graduate residency training in ocular disease at the John Cochran Veteran’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri where he gained extensive experience in management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye care and cataracts.

Dr. Moreland is a published optometrist with research in pupil-sparing third nerve palsy and is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Iowa Optometric Association. Dr. Moreland was an optometrist at Heartland Eye Care when the clinic merged with Wolfe Eye Clinic in 2014. Dr. Moreland sees patients in Ottumwa and Albia. He has special interests in comprehensive eye care as well as the management of acute and chronic eye diseases including cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, red eyes, and foreign body removal.

Outside of work, Dr. Moreland enjoys being part of his community. He was a school board member and President of Pheasants Forever in Ottumwa for ten years and currently serves on the board of Tenco, a local agency for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. In his free time, Dr. Moreland spends time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys playing guitar in a band, golfing, snow skiing and partakes in water sports and fishing.
