Dr. Sarah E. Vanway – Fairfield Eye Care Optometrist
Dr. Vanway received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2001. After completing her residency in 2002, she began working as a Staff Optometrist for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Illinois, where she continued working through 2017.
In her position, Dr. Vanway provided primary eye care services for veterans including the diagnosis and management of numerous ocular diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. She was the Optometry Student Program Coordinator, acting as a liaison for fourth-year optometry student externs, the host school externship coordinators and the ACOS for education. She also served as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member with The New England College of Optometry and as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor with University of the Incarnate Word, Rosenberg College of Optometry.
Professionally, Dr. Vanway enjoys working with patients who have low vision needs and actually initiated low vision services, including device demonstration for patients with visual impairment, during her time with the VA. Dr. Vanway, her husband, and their five children recently moved back to the Fairfield/Mount Pleasant, Iowa area to be closer to family.
