Meet Dr. Austin Strohbehn, Retina Specialist

We are pleased to introduce you to Austin L. Strohbehn, M.D. who joined Wolfe Eye Clinic earlier this year and is now seeing patients in our Carroll, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Ottumwa, and Spencer offices. Dr. Strohbehn is a board-certified, fellowship trained retina specialist who specializes in medical and surgical management of retinal diseases.

Dr. Strohbehn is originally from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Iowa State University and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Strohbehn went on to complete an internship at the University of Missouri followed by an ophthalmology residency at the Mason Eye Institute, University of Missouri, where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Strohbehn advanced his skills even further after his residency by completing a Vitreoretinal Surgery fellowship at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Strohbehn has given many scientific presentations and educational lectures to his peers and has published numerous articles about retinal disease. According to Dr. Strohbehn, "choosing ophthalmology was easy because it allows you to help people enrich the quality of their lives by restoring vision." More specifically, he chose surgical retina because it allows him to help patients with some of the most serious ocular conditions preserve their sight. 

Dr. Strohbehn’ s favorite part about working with patients each day is being able to meet new people from various parts of the state, hearing each and every one of their stories and discussing ways to help them achieve their best vision. When asking Dr. Strohbehn what the most rewarding thing about his work so far is, his response was “making people happy by preventing blindness."

Outside of the clinic Dr. Strohbehn, his wife Alisa, and their two children reside in the Des Moines area and are both excited to be back in their home state. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, exercise  and playing tennis. 

Wolfe Eye Clinic is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to add Dr. Strohbehn to our growing clinic operations in Iowa. With his addition and expertise, we are now able to provide retina disease care in our new Carroll office.
