Austin L. Strohbehn, MD – Iowa Retina Specialist

Austin L. Strohbehn, MD is a board-certified, fellowship trained retina specialist whose focus includes the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal tears or detachment. Dr. Strohbehn joined Wolfe Eye Clinic in 2021 and sees patients at our Ames, Carroll, Des Moines, Pleasant Hill, and Spencer office locations.

Dr. Strohbehn is a native Iowan who grew up in Council Bluffs. Dr. Strohbehn graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Iowa State University followed by a Doctorate of Medicine from the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. After an internship at the University of Missouri, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Mason Eye Institute, University of Missouri, where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Strohbehn enhanced his skills and training further by completing a Vitreoretinal Surgery fellowship at the Mason Eye Institute, University of Missouri.

Dr. Strohbehn is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He has published numerous articles about retinal disease and has given many scientific presentations and educational lectures to his peers. He enjoys performing service activities and has worked with the MedZou Free Medical Clinical at the University of Missouri as well as the Missouri Prevention of Blindness organization.

Dr. Strohbehn enjoys using modern medical and surgical techniques to care for his patients and help enrich their quality of life. In his free time, Dr. Strohbehn enjoys family time with his wife, Alisa, and their two children. He enjoys all types of exercise and playing tennis with family and friends. Dr. Strohbehn and his family are excited to be part of the Wolfe Eye Clinic and serve the patients of their home state.
