Meet Dr. William J. Johnson

Wolfe Eye Clinic is pleased to announce and welcome William Johnson, M.D. to our Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery Fellowship team. Dr. Johnson joined us in July of 2022 and will work alongside our retina doctors for a 24 -month surgical and medical retina fellowship based in our West Des Moines office.

Fellowships at Wolfe Eye Clinic provide a collegial atmosphere in a busy retina clinic where Dr. Johnson will participate in medical and surgical care for our retina patients under collaboration of our retina specialists. He will participate in surgical cases and retinal disease care for macular degenerationdiabetic eye diseaseretinal detachments and macular holes. In addition to the hands-on care to retina patients Dr. Johnson will directly participate in ongoing various industry- sponsored clinical trials in our active clinical research department.

Dr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina and went on to complete a Doctor of Medicine degree and surgical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, South Carolina, followed by a pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Johnson grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and outside of work enjoys spending time with his wife, Laura, playing golf, watching historical documentaries and running.
