Let’s Care for Our Eyes in 2023!

Our eyes serve a very important purpose in our daily lives, the sense of vision! Start this year off right by taking care of your eyes and learning what the proper care for your vision might be in 2023. Schedule yearly eye exams for you and your loved ones and follow these few care tips below throughout the new year.

Early Detection

A lot can change in a year, and your eye health is one. An estimated 93 million adults in the United States are at high risk for serious vision loss, but only half have visited an eye doctor in the past twelve months. An annual eye exam can give your eye doctor enough time to detect any early developments with vision changes or other ocular diseases. If treatment is necessary, this allows for the management of the condition to be better controlled and evaluated over time. Wolfe Eye Clinic eye care specialists work closely with local eye doctors across Iowa to help prevent further progression of many eye diseases.

Know Your Family History

The American Academy of Ophthalmology noted that many eye conditions have a genetic factor related to them. Ocular diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and many other eye health conditions can be genetically past down from one generation to the next. This can put you at a higher risk for a particular eye disease and it can be beneficial to receive the correct testing and treatment related to that condition regularly. Knowing your family eye history can provide you and your eye doctor a better baseline to know what signs and symptoms to look for as you begin this next year.

At Home Eye Care

Yearly eye exams are important, but there are other ways to keep your eyes healthy while at home such as maintaining a healthy diet by eating fruits and vegetables, using artificial tears or giving your eyes a rest after a lot of time spent on a computer. According to the CDC, each of these daily lifestyle habits can improve the overall health of your eyes and prevent progression of some eye diseases.

Promote Better Vision for a Better Life® in 2023

After having your eye exam this year, keep promoting national eye care health with your friends and family so they too can have healthy vision like you. Continue helping your local community by donating your old eyeglasses at a Wolfe Eye Clinic center near you, as Wolfe Eye Clinic has partnered with the Iowa Lions Eye Bank for many years and would appreciate your support by recognizing the gift of sight made possible for other individuals.
