Charles H. Barnes, MD


Charles H. Barnes, M.D. earned his Bachelor of Science degree and graduated cum laude in biology, chemistry and German at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. He received his Doctorate of Medicine, including the History of Medicine Award from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. Following an internship at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa he completed an ophthalmology and visual science residency at Texas Tech University Health and Science Center in Lubbock, Texas. His fellowship in retinal medicine and surgery was performed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

As a board-certified and fellowship-trained retina specialist, Dr. Barnes has been seeing patients with Wolfe Eye Clinic since 1997. A life-long fascination with ocular conditions began as a child when caring for his grandmother after she had cataract surgery. Since choosing to pursue retinal ophthalmology, he has enjoyed being part of a medical field that is continuously innovating technology and improving recovery outcomes. Outside of work, Dr. Barnes likes to spend his time with family and friends.
