Louis J. Scallon, MD


An Iowa native, Louis J. Scallon, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1984. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Medical Complex, with a chief residency in ophthalmology in 1988. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Scallon returned to Iowa to begin practicing in Ames and has been seeing patients at Wolfe Eye Clinic since 1997.

Dr. Scallon is a board-certified surgeon and holds professional affiliations with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, among other local eye care affiliations. Dr. Scallon has a history of volunteer work, performing ophthalmic surgery in Honduras and Tanzania. Currently, he resides on the Story County Community Foundation Board.

Dr. Scallon performs cataract surgery in Ames and surrounding areas and is a skilled LASIK surgeon in Iowa as well. The precision required to perform eye surgery is what drew Dr. Scallon to the field of ophthalmology. Through this precision, he enjoys improving his patients’ vision and quality of life and getting to know his patients along the way. Outside of Wolfe Eye Clinic, you might find Dr. Scallon running long distance, hiking, enjoying music or traveling.
