Christina L. Gillmor, MD is a fellowship-trained cornea, cataract and LASIK surgeon. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gillmor specializes in corneal transplantation including Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK), and Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP), as well as cataract surgery, sutureless secondary intraocular lens placement, and ocular surface surgery including the treatment of conjunctival and corneal cancers. She also specializes in refractive surgery options, including LASIK laser vision correction. Dr. Gillmor sees patients in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Marshalltown Wolfe Eye Clinic locations.
Dr. Gillmor attended the University of Iowa where she graduated with highest distinction completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Minor in Business Administration. She went on to pursue her medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, followed by her internship at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Dr. Gillmor completed her ophthalmology residency training at the University of Kansas Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident. She was honored to receive the ‘Alan C. Riley Award,’ given by the University of Kansas ophthalmology faculty to the resident who demonstrated extreme compassion and overwhelming drive to care for patients. She was also awarded ‘Ophthalmology Physician of the Year’ by the University of Kansas medical students. Dr. Gillmor finished her training at the University of Minnesota where she completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease that focused on the medical and surgical management of complex corneal disorders.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Gillmor’s passion lies in teaching. She has given several educational lectures to her peers and colleagues. She has volunteered her time to work with medical students, helping treat underserved patients at the University of Kansas student-run medical clinic as well as the University of Kansas Eye Lions Club. She also served as a surgeon mentor for the University of Kansas Association of Women’s Surgeons.
