Eric J. Zhang, MD is a board-certified surgeon and fellowship trained retina specialist who is accepting patients in Ames, Pleasant Hill, Ottumwa and West Des Moines Wolfe Eye Clinic locations. Dr. Zhang joined the professional staff at Wolfe Eye Clinic in 2026 after completing his Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery Fellowship with our clinic.
Dr. Zhang has received a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. After completing a major in Biology and a minor in Psychological and Brain Sciences, Dr. Zhang went on to complete a Doctor of Medicine degree at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science where he graduated with high honors. His ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of Missouri located in Columbia, and he completed his training with a vitreoretinal fellowship at Wolfe Eye Clinic. During his time at Wolfe Eye Clinic, Dr. Zhang has participated in surgical cases and retinal disease care for macular degeneration,diabetic eye disease,retinal detachments and macular holes. He has also been involved in various industry- sponsoredclinical trials and provided direct care in our active clinical research department.
Outside of Wolfe Eye Clinic, Dr. Zhang participates in community service projects and enjoys recreational activities like running, swimming, and playing basketball. Dr. Zhang looks forward to continuing to serve central Iowa and meet new patients in each community.
