Thomas M. Meirick, M.D. is a board-certified and fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon. Dr. Meirick specializes in the treatment of ocular diseases and disorders and works with patients to determine surgical options including cataract surgery, refractive surgery options including LASIK laser vision correction, and a variety of corneal procedures including corneal transplants. Dr. Meirick joined Wolfe Eye Clinic in the fall of 2023 and seeing patients at our West Des Moines, Ankeny, Carroll, and Pleasant Hill office locations.
Dr. Meirick is a native to Iowa and attended the University of Iowa where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Economics. He went on to pursue his medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine followed by an internship at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Meirick completed his Residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington. He finished his training by completing a Cornea, Refractive and Anterior Segment Fellowship at Minnesota Eye Consultants in Bloomington, Minnesota. Throughout his education and training, Dr. Meirick has received several honors and awards, including the Peter Armstrong Award for the Best Quality, Safety and Value Paper from the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, the Outstanding Resident Research Award from the University of Washington and is a member of the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Meirick has published peer-reviewed articles in several of the most respected journals in ophthalmology, including Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Science. He has also presented his research at conferences around the country, including the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS).
Beyond patient care, Dr. Meirick enjoys participating in different sports, exploring new cities by traveling, watching movies and playing board games.
