Christine L. Semler-Blue, O.D. received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Prior to her professional degree, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Central College in Pella, Iowa.
Dr. Semler-Blue has been in private eye care practice since 1997. After practicing in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, for several years, she returned to her home state of Iowa and has been serving Story City, Iowa and surrounding communities ever since. In July 2004, she joined Wolfe Family Vision Center in Story City.
Dr. Semler-Blue is a member of the American Optometric Association, Iowa Optometric Association, P.E.O. Philanthropic Educational Organization and a Board Member for the Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation Board. She enjoys being a volunteer, professionally and personally. As an optometrist, she participated in a mission trip to Honduras and has also helped with the Opening Eyes program for the Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games. Within her community, she received the Story City Lion’s Club 2019 Community Service Award, has taught Sunday school for years and sings in her church choir.
From a young age, Dr. Semler-Blue knew she wanted to be an optometrist. She was inspired by her uncle, who was also an optometrist, after he prescribed her first pair of glasses. Now, Dr. Semler-Blue is able to give back to her patients and help provide solutions to improve their quality of life. In her words, “Ninety percent of the information we receive comes through our eyes. If I can help make that process for efficient, through improved clarity of vision or by making an eye more comfortable, that’s extremely rewarding.”
Outside of work, Dr. Semler-Blue enjoys spending time with her husband, Tony, and their three boys; Eric, Connor and Tanner, especially attending their boys’ school events.
